You might be starting to sense a pattern emerging. Afaik, you can only use AI in Round Robin, Knockout and Wissen leagues, the standard perpetual league doesnt seem to allow them. Ive been fortunate enough to play in a league where pretty much everyone. I can’t tell you if that will be good or not, because I haven’t played it yet. I find that Blood Bowl 2 is far worse in this regard because its a video game.

The only thing it seems to do is adjust the die roll probabilities, but of course everyone totally denies it regardless of. It certainly doesn't make the AI play any better, or use stronger tactics.
